The useful change in Hyatt's 2026 announcement is easy to miss: a hotel category alone tells you less about the points price for your stay. In its February 25 release, Hyatt announced a May expansion from three to five redemption levels inside its eight existing hotel categories.

The announced levels are Lowest, Low, Moderate, Upper and Top. Hyatt said it was keeping a published chart with fixed thresholds rather than switching its hotels and resorts to dynamic award pricing. This is an explainer of that announcement, not a claim that the change happened this morning.

What to do with your next search

Check the points quote for each night of your actual trip. If your plans are flexible, test nearby dates before deciding a hotel is beyond your balance. An old screenshot showing a single familiar price is a poor planning shortcut.

The decision is still straightforward: compare the final points total and any unavoidable cash charges with a comparable cash booking. Match the room type and cancellation policy. Then ask whether you would choose the same hotel if the points balance were not sitting there.

Keep promises and rollouts separate

The release also described planned digital points sharing and early award access for specified members. Those were announcements of additional enhancements. Confirm their current availability in your account before building a booking plan around them.

For now, treat categories as a way to narrow the search, then let the live booking quote decide. Less nostalgia for the old chart, more attention to the dates that work.
