The October change is here
If you planned to fund a Hyatt stay with Sapphire Preferred or Ink Business Preferred points, redo the transfer math. At 4:3, every 1,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points becomes 750 World of Hyatt points. The same Hyatt requirement now takes more Chase points.
Chase announced this on June 15, 2026. For Sapphire Preferred, the announcement made 4:3 effective immediately for new cardmembers applying on or after June 15; those who applied earlier moved to the new ratio October 1. Chase’s current benefits page describes the earlier cohort by account-opening date and says its 1:1 window ended September 30.
For Ink Business Preferred, October 1 is the effective date for existing cardmembers and new applicants applying on or after that date. These are card-specific terms, not a blanket change to every Chase card.
A third more Chase points, plus rounding
Consider a hypothetical booking requiring 30,000 Hyatt points. At 1:1, you would transfer 30,000 Chase points. At 4:3, you need 40,000. Receiving 25% fewer Hyatt points per Chase point means spending 33⅓% more Chase points for the same Hyatt requirement.
The transfer increment matters, too. For a hypothetical 20,000-point Hyatt requirement, dividing by 0.75 gives 26,666.67 Chase points—but Chase requires transfers in 1,000-point increments. Transfer 27,000 and you receive 20,250 Hyatt points, leaving 250 after that redemption.
These examples show conversion arithmetic, not a hotel rate or available award. The change also does not shrink Hyatt points already in your account; it changes what incoming Chase points buy.
Check the booking before transferring
Start in your Chase account and confirm the displayed transfer ratio. Then verify the actual night and room’s award availability, points requirement and all cash charges. Compare that total with a realistic cash alternative you would consider booking.
Chase says transfers are final. Many process by the next business day, but they can take up to seven business days. Availability can change while you wait.
Transfer toward a specific booking, with rounding included. An unused Hyatt balance is still unused—even if moving it once felt like the easy part.
