Freedom Flex: activated, eligible Q4 dining earns 7% within the shared cap
Current cardholders can earn 7% on eligible dining after activation, but groceries and qualifying Red Cross donations share the same $1,500 quarterly spending limit.
Check whether the spending fits your budget—and whether sharing purchasing access fits your life—before pursuing the full bonus.

Illustrative photography. No firsthand stay is implied. At the October 2 issuer check, United Explorer offered 70,000 miles after $3,000 in eligible purchases within three months of opening, plus 10,000 for the first authorized user added within that window. The annual fee is $0 the first year, then $150.
If you would not otherwise add an authorized user, evaluate the 70,000-mile spending bonus alone. The larger headline should not decide who gets access to your account.
Offers vary by channel and can change; no fixed expiration was established. Recheck official terms before applying. This observation does not establish when the promotion began.
For example, already-planned eligible purchases totaling $3,000 would average $1,000 a month over three months. This hypothetical arithmetic helps with scheduling; it does not establish that your transactions qualify. Map actual bills to the account-opening window, leaving room for purchases that happen later than expected.
If meeting the requirement means extra purchases or carrying an interest-bearing balance, reconsider the offer. Interest and purchases you would otherwise skip belong in the calculation, even when the miles look appealing.
Transfers, cash advances, cash-like transactions and fees are among excluded purchases. Each bonus posts six to eight weeks after qualification. Avoid planning an immediate booking around miles that have not arrived.
Current Explorer holders and previous holders who received its bonus within 24 months are excluded. Approval is not guaranteed.
Authorized users need consent and receive the same charging privileges. You repay all balances. Credit reporting may affect their score.
The user must remain through fulfillment, with the account open and not in default. Bonuses may be reclaimed if the account stays open less than six months.
Discuss purchasing boundaries before submitting anyone’s details. An agreement about what someone may buy—and how you will handle repayment—is more consequential than the incremental reward.
Put the later annual fee on your calendar. Before renewal, assess whether keeping the card fits your actual travel and household budget. Read the final application disclosures for current costs.
